Supporting body positivity and diversity in fashion

What?

An unique concept to buy fashion with a new system. Instead of sizes we have forms. Instead of genders we use moods!

Why?

The traditional fashion systems exclude gender diversity. Plus the industries change sizes every year. XS is today XXS M is today XL - let's change this into a system which supports body diversity and supports what's most important: how we feel!

At the discovery phase of my project, I did literature research in order to get a better understanding of fashion industries and their systems

  • How did the norm of sizes establish and change over the time? What influenced the international markets to approve the sizes? How do the sizes form the industry and the production chain? What do sizes do with our mental health? How does the customer react to sizes and their changes? What does the fashion industry against body shaming? Which labels support body positivity?
  • Literature Library: 3 Books, 8 Journals, 19 Paper, 42 Articles.

Main Insights:

  • Fashion and its role of society developed since 1530
  • Int. Markets are influenced by cheap production and consumers. Since 1965
  • Production chains are under pressure of avoiding costs. Production in Asia: different BMI!
  • Mental health decreases since fashion and style is a socialising factor.
  • Consumer rarely notice or become active.
  • About 16% of all fashion labels support body positivity or offer functions, which help to buy fitting clothes.

Thesis:

  • Fashion Industry is controlled by designers of labels
  • Steady search for perfection causes size changes
  • Customer are not aware of the impact of the fashion industry
